What If We Were Really True
What if we were really true
And said everything we thought
Could we then stop feeling blue Literary device: metaphor
Feeling every day that we just fought
What if we were really true
And showed just how we felt
Maybe then we could sail into
The sky and Orion's belt
What if we were really true
Would there be any depression then?
Would the world be kind and free from sin
No one wishing to flee within
What if we were really true
And showed what we really think
Could we then see the total view?
Of those around us who seem to sink
What if we were really true
And showed each passing day Literary device: rhyming
What it really means to be happy
But only if we pray
What if we were really true
And looked God in the face
Never trying, never lying
Never wishing we were dying
What if we were really true
We did all things good and well
Can we become like Christ?
Only time will tell
The Way It Is
I can feel my heart beating beneath my chest, Literary device: imagery
Why do you scream at me? All I do is my best.
My life is a nightmare, only I am awake,
Why was it my fault? Where was my mistake?
Sometimes it's OK, sometimes you're alright, Literary device: anaphora
Sometimes you don't get angry and we won't fight.
But when something goes wrong, you never can help,
You'll always hurt me again, and you will make me yelp.
I give you love, but you don't care.
Why do I have to live like this? It just isn't fair.
Why is it you bring these tears?
Why is it I have to live in fear?
I just don't know how to heal these scars,
It's like I'm a prisoner and can't break through your bars.
Why do you have a hold over me? I feel like I can't leave.
One day I will grow strong, one day I will believe.
Then you just wait,
I will be the one to send all the hate.
I will be the one to yell,
Then I will tell you to go to hell.
I wish I could do this,
My life could be so bliss.
Right now I have to stay here, the tears I will hide.
I feel like I'm slowly starting to die inside.
Nature
Look Outside
Look Outside, see the trees
Watch the flowers in the breeze
Things won't be like this in a year or two
If polluting is all we do
Seize the night Literary device: anaphora
Seize the day
Things won't always be this way
Thousands of people are dying Literary device: hyperbole
In the night you hear children crying
Let's stop the war
Our people are sore
The world can't help itself
Who cares about your wealth
Help me to help you
Show the world what you can do.
Countryside To City
As I look to the sky I can clearly see
The glorious sun beaming down on me
The clouds go from thick to a wispy thin
To miss such a view is a terrible sin
As I look around this spectacular place
I feel a smile take over my face
The fields of lush green grass are dotted Literary device: imagery
With beautiful wild flowers the bees have spotted
Busily flying from flower to flower
Pollinating before a shower
The distinctive red of a poppy field
To a tarmac strip they have to yield
The man-made pathway cuts through nature's canvas Literary device: metaphor
Taking us to far flung places around us
To a built up concrete industrial machine
Where places like this are rarely seen
So whenever you visit the countryside
Take a few moments to put aside
So you will remember what you have seen
Before you return to the not so green.

The Eagle Soars
Our American Bald Eagle stands bold and proud Literary device: allusion
Representing our nation's liberty,
Soaring effortlessly above the shores
Peering down at the majestic sea.
Its wings caress the perpetual clouds
As it peers bravely to the earth,
It gracefully adorns the lulling wind
Proudly brag our nation's birth.
Its eyes are golden as the earth's mother lode Literary device: simile
And gaze upon the mountain peaks,
Keen and brilliant is its brow
Standing firm it seems to speak.
Its tail is broad and fans the wind
Like a rudder, it gracefully flows,
Feathers spread to take their leave
Soon to branch it will repose.

Are There Pawprints In Heaven?
I hear of a place that is made of gold, Literary device: imagery
a place where we shall never grow old,
But one answer I have not heard at all,
will there be paw prints from my little dog?
He promised us joy right from the start, Literary device: personification
I just wonder if she'll be a part.
So as I sit here and dream of the day,
I wonder if heaven she will stay?
When you're walking down with the saints of old
take a glimpse of that new road and if there you shall see,
Maybe a paw print just for me.

Friendship
Through Thick And Thin
I could skip a heartbeat, and I would survive,
I could be in a car crash, and still be alive.
The clouds could fall out of the sky,
The oceans could disappear, and all turn dry. Literary device: hyperbole
These things in life are all bad I know,
but there's far worse things,
just thought you should know.
Life would not be the same without someone like you,
You're there when I need you to help me through.
Through the good times and through the bad,
Be them happy, or be them sad. Literary device: anaphora
I don't have to be with you, to know you're there,
We don't have to see each other, to know that we care.
We could be apart for years upon end,
and still remain the best of friends.
Life goes on, and people change,
And through it all, our friendship shall remain the same.
That's such as a life, and how things come to be.
Just thought you should know,
HOW MUCH YOU MEAN TO ME.

Forever Friends
True friends are hard to find,
but there you are you came into my life.
You came to me in a perfect time,
I'm so happy you're a friend of mine.
We've been together for so long,
in a fantastic place where we belong.
We shared the mysteries of our life,
laughter and tears are seen in our eyes. Literary device: Imagery
You're with me and I'm with you,
you comfort me and I LOVE YOU.
A part of me becomes part of you,
true friendship I've found in you.
Now it's time to say goodbye,
tears of sadness keeps falling in my eyes. Literary device: personification
So, please don't cry my darling friend,
Coz our friendship will never end.
Yes it's true we'll be apart,
Coz I'm here and you there.
With you my friend I want to tell,
whatever happens we'll be FRIENDS FOREVER!
