Limerick- a poem that is typically humorous, and follows the rhyming pattern of aabba
Courage
Brave Ben dreamt he was drowning in the sea
From the killer waves, he struggled to free
He woke up in fright
In the dead of the night
His wife asked- "What made you pee"
A Fish Who Could Talk
There once was a fish who could talk.
He wanted to learn how to walk.
He got out from the sea,
Fell right onto me,
And I nearly died from great shock.

Frogs
Green and speckled legs,
Hop on logs and lily pads
Splash in cool water.
Kangaroos
In a pouch I grow,
On a southern continent --
Strange creatures I know.

Kidzone Poetry
Sonnet- a poem that expresses a single complete thought or idea
UNAWARE
Isolation quickly overwhelms me
Begging for forgiveness, a fallen hand
Desolation I now begin to see
Hanging by a thin thread, a single strand
I watch them… Their fears, their misbehaviour
Mistreat, abuse…. Completely unaware
I am the land, their glorious saviour
Someday they will learn to treat me with care
I wish they would learn to trust each other
To join as one, to stand strong together
A bond, a band and a mighty brother
Forever as one, a powerful tether
You may not know, that fear is their captor
So you may not see each special factor
This Night
I’m driftwood, and I’m floating out to sea
as sun descends upon my home - the grove
of trees whose fragrance still remains with me.
And likewise, heaven’s work of art, a mauve
surrounding me, now permeates my soul.
Warm water, in the twilight growing cold,
is rocking me. Beneath dark blue, a shoal
moves swiftly; overhead there will unfold
the myriad of stars in semblance of
a giant carousel in dimming sky.
Those stars that glitter for the grove I love
will glitter too for me, where here I lie
alone, enraptured. . . and I think I might
drift evermore, enveloped by this night.

Ballad- is a poem that tells a story and often rhyme
Untitled
As I was walking down the street
I saw two people in secret meet
The second one said to the first
'You have some news to quench my thirst?'
'In behind the old, damp shed
There lies a noble man slain, dead
And no one knows he lies in strife
Except his dog and lonely wife
With master gone where no one knocks
His dog has left to chase a fox
His wife has found somebody new
His house is left for all to view
Though it's been empty for a while
We'll be warm and dry in half a mile
For now we can take comfort there
We'll flee the place when it grows bare
Many people knew the noble man
But none do care where he has gone
Over his grave, all do ignore
The wind shall blow forever more.'
Whisper
Whisper Words... we hear them whispered..on the wind and on our hearts,
It says never no, no never should be apart...
Love...I hear you whisper...on the lips of our lives
It says come, oh come this love is alive..
We walked the hallways with candlelight shine,
Danced with the ghosts and drank strawberry wine.
We found a remedy for a love with no cure,
Stepped off the edge of forever feeling safe and secure.
It was in your words I remembered who I had become,
You were my echo and my heart beat like a drum,
It was in your soul I found refuge from my storm,
You were my shelter and kept this safe haven warm.
Words..we hear them whispered..on the wind and on our hearts,
It says no, no never should be apart...
Love...I hear you whisper...on the lips of our lives
It says come, oh come this love is alive..
Please stay a little longer,
Make this heart beat stronger,
I am nothing without you...but a fool.
Please whisper a melody,
Straight from you to me,
I am nothing without you... but a fool.
And who are we fooling because everyone sees,
There is a whisper in the poetry's breeze.
